As the world caves in

I painted this piece at a very low point in my life. I was in my first semester of college, in a very low place with my mental health, and became obsessed with fears of nuclear war. This piece was created as a way to take my anxieties and make them into something tangible-- to move them out of the cloud in my brain and release them onto paper. The skeletons are a reference to human remains found in the ruins of Pompeii, curled up together as their world ended. The title is inspired by As the World Caves In by Matt Maltese, a song about the end of the world. Watercolor and ballpoint pen on paper, frame and matt designed and assembled by me.
